Description
Much of what we know as "critical incident response" began in the American fire service; much of the dramatic change taking place over the past decade is being developed there as well. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) has used innovative and exciting knowledge translation processes to build consensus between researchers, practitioners and key fire service organizations on a new set of best practices for addressing potentially traumatic events in that industry. Included are new designs for personal, professional, peer, and organizational strategies; also included are new and very accessible resources EAP providers can use to develop specific intervention skills.
1) Describe emperical, theoretical and practical changes reflected in recommended strategies and approaches; 2) Identify resources available to EAP practitioners to develop specific screening, assessment, and intervention skills included in recommended approaches; and 3) Evaluate implications for EAP critical incident response practices in other industries and settings.
