Tristin has worked in the EAP and mental health field for over 15 years and also is a nutritional consultant and a level 2 EMDR practitioner. She received her Masters degree in counseling psychology from Loyola College in Baltimore and is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Colorado.

Description
This session will clarify how nutrition affects anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and eating disorders. We will review current research about nutrition and mood and will discuss how food affects our neurotransmitters. Topics also include how protein, carbohydrates, and fats affect our mental health and the effects of chronic dieting. Participants will learn how to assess for nutrition related aspects to mental health problems and will be able to make nutritional suggestions to clients. We will also discuss EAP specific issues such as knowing when to make a referral to a health professional.
1) Describe how nutrition affects mental health; 2) Utilize specific assessment questions to identify how nutrition may affect clients' moods and mental health; and 3) Provide specific nutrition suggestions to help your clients manage mental health issues.
