Description
Highlighted in recent articles in the New York Times and Washington Post, Mental Health First Aid is a groundbreaking mental health and wellness program that helps an individual identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This evidence-based program has certified more than 1000 instructors and 20,000 first-aiders around the country. This session will show how one EAP in Pawtucket, RI has taught the course to EA and HR professionals locally and succeeded in getting CEU credit for the course. In addition to this case study, we will model some of the key interactive activities.
1) Outline the five most common behavioral health problems in the United States; 2) Identify the factors that might put someone at higher risk for suicide, self harm, or harm to others; and 3) Describe the specific mental health challenges faced by law enforcement officers, higher education staff, and returning military veterans.
