Jennifer Larsen, M.D., FACP Dr. Larsen completed her medical degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and her Internal Medicine residency and Endocrinology and Metabolism fellowship at the University of Utah. She was a guest scientist at National Institutes of Health, NICHD, before joining the faculty at University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1987. She is currently Chief of the Section of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism and holds the Louise and Morton Degen Professorship of Internal Medicine. She is also the Associate Dean for Clinical Research in the College of Medicine and the Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, which includes UNMC's Clinical Research Center. Her research has focused on the metabolic consequences of kidney and pancreas transplantation, and more recently novel strategies to prevent diabetes and its complications in high-risk populations. Her NIH-funded research specifically focuses on the role of nontraditional vascular risk factors in vascular disease progression after kidney and pancreas transplantation. She also serves as the program director and a principal investigator for one of the projects evaluating diabetes risk in Native American youth for the Northern Plains Tribal Epidemiologic Center's Indian Health Service-funded Native American Research Center for Health grant. She has earned recognition for her teaching activities, earning multiple ""Outstanding Teacher"" awards and is often invited to lecture, across the U.S. She has served on many NIH and other funding agency study sections, as well as many other national leadership positions including the previous course director for the Endocrine Society's Clinical Endocrine Update Continuing Eduction Program, and an elected member of the Endocrine Society's National Council. She is also the co-author of the American Diabetes Association's position statement on Islet, Pancreas and Kidney Transplantation.
