Outline of Presentation:

Using social skills requires social knowledge, e.g. “Social Thinking”. Social Thinking is an ongoing process where we consider our own and others emotions, thoughts, intentions, prior knowledge, belief systems, personalities and how these are to be considered in various situations or contexts. We engage in the process of Social Thinking for many different reasons, including but not limited to our social interactions with others. We also use Social Thinking when we consider what a character is saying in a novel, why a person in history made the decisions being studied, why the teacher is asking specific information of the class, etc. . The social mind rarely rests. In this workshop we will review the ILAUGH model of Social Thinking, exploring the connection between social learning, academics and skills needed for success in the adult world. This is a practical workshop day where audience members will learn about their own social thinking and what that has to do with understanding how we interpret and respond to the world around us.
