Description
Outline of Presentation:

One of the most daunting choices faced by the individual with disabilities and their family is “Where will I live and how much control will I have in how I live?”. See how a family of a young lady, who was non-verbal & has severe autism and behaviors, faced this decision proactively. This presentation covers the process of residential choice from least restrictive to most restrictive options and then the implementation of a preferred model of family friendly choice & control called “The Family Consortium” option. Contrast is given between the traditional group home and this model. The history identification of establishing a family consortium and what has made theirs a success for over 15 years will be presented including such important topics as selecting compatible roommates and families as well as a consensus building service provider.
