Dr. Evans is Professor of Psychology and Chair of Neuroscience at Bucknell University, where he has been on the faculty since 1998. Dr. Evans received his M.A. In Child Studies from Tufts University, his PhD from Boston University in 1993. He was an NIH postdoctoral research follow at the Yale Child Study Center from 1993-1995. Trained in developmental psychology Dr. Evans specializes in the development of repetitive, ritualistic and compulsive behaviors. His work examines the cognitive, neuropsychological, emotional and psychophysiological aspects of compulsive behavior in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities as well as in typical children. He is a member of the Society for Research in Child Development. He has published extensively in leading scientific and professional journals, and his work is recognized internationally.

Description
Outline of Presentation:
Dr. Evans will examine the various aspects of repetitive, compulsive behavior. He will describe the normal development of repetitive behavior, and discuss the similarities and dissimilarities between the normal (and adaptive) rituals,habits and routines in children, and those that emerge in neurodevelopmental disorders like autism. He will also explore the neurobiological mechanism of repetitive, compuslive behavior, as well as their possilbe evolutionary origins.
