Description
Outline of Presentation:
This session will address developing successful romantic relationships for people with autism spectrum disorders. Dave Hamrick and Lindsey Nebeker, both individuals with high-functioning autism, will discuss what has made their relationship work and how others can do the same. Topics such as how to distinguish between genuine friendliness and flirting, nonverbal signals, proper date etiquette, and knowing personal boundaries will be covered. It will also cover some of the significant obstacles that people with autism face when they try to pursue a romantic relationship, and how to address them. This session is especially recommended for teenagers and adults on the autism spectrum, as well as family members who can relay this information to them.
