Description
Healthcare outcomes in quality, cost, and service for a majority of hospitals and medical groups fall short of externally required and internally desired targets/ benchmarks. Proposed healthcare reform will further increase demands on current systems/processes with unpredictable output unless specific, well understood and evidence-based action occurs.

Just as the healthcare industry evolved an understanding of the revenue cycle as a continuum rather than an A/R outcome, a systems perspective demonstrates that organization-wide financial outcomes are a result of clinical and operational functions. Financial leaders using this perspective can facilitate their clinical and administrative partners/teams to achieve near-term, sustainable results they desire.

Using an innovative approach and new research-based data, this presentation will demonstrate how historical factors affect the current function of the healthcare industry globally and individual organizations specifically. Building on this framework and using a medical-based model of assessment and planning, the presenter will then advance audience participation by exploring the unique combination of factors affecting individual organizational performance and the predictive significance for future outcomes.

While health care reform will occur nationally, most organizations are community based with long histories and enduring traditions. These individual profiles generate unique characteristics, presenting specific strengths for effectively integrating healthcare reform as well as definitive areas for leverage.

Lastly, using a systems approach the presenter will apply the findings of these data to successful hospital-physician relationships and teamwork.

NOTE: This presentation could be offered as a workshop in which participants complete an individual assessment using a research-based, statistically valid and reliable diagnostic tool, in which case a major takeaway would be a customized self-assessment with benchmark comparison.

Learning Objectives:
  • Demonstrate how historic strengths influence your organization's readiness and capacity for health care reform
  • Identify outcomes and change levers your organization can adjust to improve its future performance
  • Provide insight into the factors shaping current operating and financial outcomes
  • Use a systems approach to predict organizational effectiveness
