Robert S. Galvin,
MD, Executive Director of Health Services and Chief Medical Officer,
General Electric Company
Robert Galvin, MD, is Executive Director of Health Services and Chief Medical Officer at General
Electric. He also leads health policy for the company. His responsibilities include managing the $3B that GE spends annually on healthcare and leading GE’s clinical group, which encompasses 175
clinics in 30 countries. Dr. Galvin is Professor Adjunct of Medicine and Health Policy at Yale, and his
work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and Health Affairs.
His focus is in the areas of value purchasing, payment reform and public policy relating to the role of
employers in the healthcare system. He is co-founder of the Leapfrog Group and founder of Bridges
to Excellence and the Center for Payment Reform. He is a member of the Defense Health Board as
well as the National Advisory Council of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and has
served on several Institute of Medicine Committees. Dr Galvin’s work has received awards from the
National Business Group on Health, the National Healthcare Purchasing Institute and the National
Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.

Description
Healthcare reform is a critical issue for stakeholders in the private sector who must compete in the global market place. Dr. Galvin will share his views on the course of payment reform from the perspective of a major purchaser of healthcare services and as a founding participant in the Leapfrog Group, Bridges to Excellence, Prometheus Payment, and the Center for Payment Reform.
