Description
The presenters will detail the financial implications of two different EMR implementation scenarios: (1) implementing EMR for an employed physician group (which many hospitals are currently focusing on) and (2) the affiliation model of EMR implementation, an advanced health IT strategy being pioneered by a small number of organizations.
The presentation will include project management tools for defining key roles and responsibilities (financial and operational) during EMR system selection, installation, training, go-live and follow-up. Attendees will learn how to map key hospital staff members and physicians and ensure participation and commitment from individuals who impact the success of the implementation.
This presentation will include perspectives from a physician practice leader on implementation obstacles. Attendees will learn how to leverage a Physician Health Organization (PHO) to facilitate an EMR implementation and meet financial goals.
A case study will provide details and insight on a hospital system that launched a large-scale rollout of EMR to community physicians. Learn how financial leadership evaluated vendor options, analyzed total cost of ownership and worked with physicians to achieve important levels of financial integration. A physician leader will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the hospitals approach to planning and implementation. He will also provides perspective on the direct costs of EMR for physicians and how an implementation impacts cash flow. Attendees will learn how to structure an EMR implementation to make it financially feasible for physicians.
