Description
The term spirituality is used in many ways, referring to faith in a higher power and, more broadly, in the context of our relationship with self and others, our experience of the natural world, the use of eastern practices such as meditation and mindfulness, and a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Each of us in our own way aspires to live a satisfying and inspiring life. The pressures of our fast-paced present day lifestyles, however, always seem to be distracting us from what's really important and what we'd really rather be doing. A growing body of scientific evidence is linking spirituality with positive health outcomes.
What role does spirituality play in our increasingly secular society? What does the term “spirituality” even mean? Today many people describe themselves as spiritual but not religious. After a short discourse loosely defining spirituality, scientific evidence will be presented that is supportive of the health benefits of spirituality and spiritual practices. Practical ways to incorporate these beneficial practices will be presented to facilitate creating “a life well lived.”
