Phyllis D. Morris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Administration degree from the George Washington University. Phyllis served as chair of programming for the 2004 Convention Alley conference, and led the wildly unsuccessful effort to convict Severus Snape at the Accio 2005 conference. She delivered presentations on the heir of Gryffindor theory at Convention Alley, on Arthurian-HP connections at the Accio conference and on the role of fear in the series at the Lumos conference. In what the non-wizarding world refers to as "real life," Phyllis lives in Albany, New York and directs policy for three New York State public assistance programs.

Description
In "The Significance of Seven: Why Seven is 'the Most Powerfully Magical Number,'" Phyllis D. Morris will present her analysis of the ways in which Rowling's use of the number seven in the Harry Potter series parallels the appearance of this number in mythology, religion, astronomy and the classical world. Ms. Morris will also present her theory on why seven is "the most powerfully magical number." After her presentation, Ms. Morris will ask the audience to identify additional instances of the use of the number seven that appear in the series, and will solicit other ideas on how the number seven is significant. With the release of the seventh and final book in the series in the seventh month of the year 2007, there couldn't be a better time to ponder the mystery of "seven."
