Cathy Leogrande teaches and researches in areas of teen and tween development, especially focused on video games and learning, popular culture, young adult literature, as well as Harry Potter. She teaches a graduate Education course EDG 731 (of course!) Teaching Harry Potter: Multiple Perspectives. As a teacher, she is a cross between Minerva McGonagal and Remus Lupin, although Slughorn, Moody and even Snape sneak in every once in a while. She is a Ravenclaw and is willing to prove it.

Description
Middle and high school years are times of great change in all students. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, along with their peers, provide a "laboratory" of sorts for examining the issues affecting today's teens and tweens. The wizarding world provides a remarkable template for examining many of the issues facing students in public and private schools. Included in this discussion are family constellations, socioeconomic status, genetics versus environment, social stratification, dating, and the place and status of sports. Rowling's books provide a common foundation for the discussion of developmental issues of young people ages 11-17.
