Description
So what makes a good Emergency Manager and how can I make myself more competitive in the job market. These questions are being asked more frequently by students enrolled in Emergency Management degree programs and people looking at changing careers. This year's career workshop will explore these questions, but from the context of skills and capabilities beyond what may be gained through the standard Emergency Management training and education programs. We have invited two members of IAEM who have experience in hiring for their Emergency Management Programs and one member who recently went through a very complex interview process. We will also provide information on résumé writing which is a critical first step when applying for a job.
The presentations will be followed up with opportunities to have your résumé reviewed and critiqued as well as the option to participate in one-on-one mock interviews. If you choose to participate in the mock interview, you should review the fictitious job description of the job you are interviewing for, which will be available at the conference, as well as the fact sheet for the fictitious community you will be serving if you get hired.
