Dan McCarthy, Meterologist in Charge,
Indianapolis Weather Forecast Office

Daniel McCarthy is the newly appointed the Meteorologist in Charge (MIC) of the Indianapolis, Indiana, Weather Forecast Office, where he is in charge of the day-to-day operations. Previously Dan was the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the NOAA/NWS Storm Prediction Center (SPC) for 20 years, where he served as the liaison between the center and the users of SPC products and services. Dan received his Master’s Degree in Meteorology in 1984 specializing in severe storm structure and forecasting. Before coming to the NWS, Dan was a TV meteorologist. Dan is a member of the American Meteorological Society the National Weather Association since 1980. He has also been a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers since 2001.

National Weather Service Combines cutting edge technologies with high quality serivce to support the emergency management community. Using examples from recent weather disaster, such as the Greensburg, Kansas, tornado, NWS explores how these emerging services impact emergency managers and create opportunites for outstanding partnerships.
