Ms Claire B. Rubin, M.A., is President of Claire B. Rubin & Associates (www.clairerubin.com), a small business specializing in disaster research and consulting, located in Arlington, VA. For the past four years, she has been the Managing Editor of the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (www.bepress.com/jhsem).She also is a Visiting Research Scholar at the GWU Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management. She has almost 30 years of experience as a researcher, practitioner, and academic in the fields of emergency management and homeland security.She has written more than 65 publications on hazards and disasters and has delivered numerous lectures and presentations on emergency management and homeland security topics. Ongoing projects include the Time Line Series of products (www.disaster-timeline.com). She is the editor of a new book, Emergency Management: The American Experience, 1900-2005, to be published in April 2007.

Description
Drawing from the three years of research for the new book, Emergency Management: The American Experience, 1900-2005, I will cover some historic major disasters at are focusing events and their outcomes, noting especially the govermental responses. The focus will be on development of policies and organizations that deal with disasters.
