Gunnar J. Kuepper is Chief of Operations at Emergency & Disaster Management, Inc., in Los Angeles, California. He has published over 100 articles and papers and has authored more than 50 comprehensive reports on a variety of catastrophic incidents. In 1999, Gunnar was appointed as a principal on the NFPA 1600 Standard Committee on “Emergency/Disaster Management and Business Continuity Programs”. During that same year, he also became President of IAEM Region IX, a position that he still holds today.

Description
This spring, a new version of NFPA Standard 1600 on Emergency Management was released. The 2007 edition has considerably expanded its conceptual requirements and has added Prevention as the Fifth Element. The presentation will explain the document and identify the steps needed to become compliant with the standard.
