Brian Sabowitz, MD, FACP, CCD, Medical Director, New Dimensions Weight Loss Surgery
Brian Sabowitz, MD, MS, FACP is board-certified in Internal Medicine but limits his practice to Bariatric Medicine. Dr. Sabowitz developed an interest in metabolic bone disease in the early 1980s while working as a project engineer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center developing hardware for measuring bone densitometry on the International Space Station. For the last four years after personally having bariatric surgery and losing over 100 pounds, he began a medical weight loss clinic to help others deal with the chronic disease of obesity. In August, Dr. Sabowitz moved to San Antonio, Texas to work with a group of bariatric surgeons to develop a comprehensive medical and surgical program for the treatment of obesity.

This didactic session will explore the different types of bariatric surgery and the skelatal risks of each. Nutritional needs of patients undergoing bariatric surgery will be addressed and proper dietray supplementation will be discussed.Patient monitoring for skeletal effects of bariatric surgery must be done.
