Description
Students with disabilities have never been in a better position to enter the workforce. They have grown up in an educational environment in which they have received many of the same opportunities as students without disabilities and are entering higher education in larger numbers than ever. Community colleges are in a unique position to make connections between these students and the local workforce and place students with local employers. However, students with disabilities are often not served effectively in many community colleges because of a lack of coordination between disability service offices and career services offices. The U.S. Department of Labor recently documented a set of best practices in several community colleges in which disability services and career services offices effectively serve students with disabilities and make connections to local employers. This workshop will cover the best practices found in this study, present a toolkit developed from the findings, and offer solutions that can help you connect and energize your programs to more effectively link students with disabilities to employment. NOTE: We will add a community college representative to the panel once the study is complete in October.
