Description
This session will discuss topic of programming for 1st and 2nd year students, and how to best cater career-related programming to the unique needs of the 1st and 2nd year population. First, the session will begin with a discussion of what makes 1st and 2nd year students unique- where are they in their career development process? What are they looking for from a career center? Secondly, the session will continue with a discussion of what type of programming best fits the needs of this population. What structure and/or format is most effective? How much information is appropriate at this point in the process? How do we find a balance between educating students about making informed career decisions, while still getting the most out of their college experience? Lastly, the session will close with a discussion of the programming that has been conducted at Columbia University. The co-presenters will discuss what has worked, what hasn't worked, and how they have been able to gradually develop a 1st and 2nd year curriculum that best meets the needs of the population.
