Description
Volunteerism and the nonprofit sector are growing. Colleges and universities are building service learning and civic engagement programs and more students are interested in public service careers. But what kind of career does the nonprofit sector really offer? How do young professionals find great first jobs in the sector? How can career services professionals develop stronger relationships with local and national nonprofit organizations? A CALL TO SERVE will be led by the author of the 2008 Guidebook on Nonprofit Sector Careers (pub. by Fieldstone). It will feature experts on nonprofit careers and nonprofit HR practices, including senior leaders of New Orleans-based nonprofits. It will provide information on the nonprofit sector and careers in it; address barriers to connecting graduates to nonprofit sector careers; review resources available to promote nonprofit sector careers; brainstorm strategies to connect nonprofits to your campus (and students); share information on national efforts to recruit talent to the sector; describe campus programs in nonprofit leadership and management; and use New Orleans nonprofits as a case study.
