Description
Emerging Leaders is a competitive program that places under graduate and graduate students with disabilities in fulfilling, paid summer internships at America's leading corporations and provides them with leadership development opportunities. Established by Booz Allen Hamilton in 2001 as a vehicle for assuring that talented college students with disabilities were included in their applicant pipeline, Emerging Leaders was transitioned to the National Business & Disability Council (NBDC) at Abilities! in 2005 so as to make internship opportunities available to a greater number of qualified students by including NBDC's many business partners in a broader range of industries and geographic locations. For summer 2007, interns were placed at such industry leaders as AIG, Bloomberg, Booz Allen Hamilton, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, Liz Claiborne, Lockheed Martin, Panasonic, Sodexho, and SunTrust Bank. A 3-day Leadership Development Conference is an integral part of the program. The NBDC provides information and technical assistance to corporate partners and interns prior to, during, and following the internship.
