Description
The federal government, employers, parents and students are holding higher education institutions accountable for student learning. Assessment is the impetus student and academic affairs educators are using to validate to taxpayers and policymakers that students will graduate with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to be competitive in a global economy. This session serves as a guide to departments to move past developing learning outcomes to using outcomes assessment results in providing purposeful data to improve and enhance programming, budgeting, planning and decision-making policies. Students must be able to effecitvely communicate what they have learned as they move into the world of work. Students must be reflective in their experiential learning and must be able to communicate the meaning of what they have learned. First the presenters will introduce participants to the univesity, divisional and departmental outcomes and the resources used to develop outcomes at these three institutional levels. Second the presenters will share methods used to measure outcomes at the departmental level in the University Career Center. Third the prsenters will disclose a summary of the data and show how these results are used to improve programs and services, performance, and employer development. During this portion of the session, attendees will engage in facilitated small group discussions on how they are using outcome-based assessment results to make knowledgeable decisions that impact their departments.
