Description
Futuretrack2006, the most ambitious study of its kind, is a five-year longitudinal study investigating career development in 130,000 students who entered Higher Education in the UK in 2006. The aim of the study is to deepen understanding of career decision-making (in individuals and groups) and to develop institutionally-based interventions to support career learning and transition into employment/further study. In this session the presenters will use Futuretrack (and other) findings to reveal how undergraduates approach career planning and work preparation in the first year of higher education - what are their aspirations, fears, expectations, plans - where they think they are going and who is going to help them get there. In particular Futuretrack data reveals what students expect in a job and how they make their choices. By using a structured debate, presenters will confront the complexity and contradiction inherent in the Futuretrack data and provide the audience with an opportunity to decide whether the graduates of 2009 will want to be lost or found.
