Description
This session will cover how to develop a program that prepares underrepresented students with career development skills for a successful internship or job search and how to utilize employer partners who are dedicated to diversity in the workforce to help you! UNH will share best practices on designing a diversity career program, on attracting an engaged student cohort and on working with industry partners to deliver career content and mentoring to the students. The UNH program, sponsored by corporate partner Osram Sylvania, includes 7 career seminars for students. Employer mentors participate in the seminars to help lead discussion and provide "real world" insight. Additionally there are 2 Professional Networking Lunches where employer mentors connect with students providing students with an opportunity to practice their career skills, build their networks and gain advice from those in the "real world". The employer mentors may also share their personal experiences on issues directly relating to underrepresented populations, such as disclosure on resumes, being "out" in the workplace, etc.
