PASS Community Summit 2008: Program Sessions (Application Development)

Improving the performance of your enterprise data modeling processes

Presenter:
Vasile D Chiorean (CA)

Session Details

This session will outline techniques to address the challenges of real-world modeling within your enterprise. In particular, we will examine ways to improve the performance of potentially time consuming enterprise data modeling processes. Topics covered will include: A. Size matters! Break down your large models using subject area based Derive Model processes to achieve the following benefits: --The derived models are linked to the original model to allow fast and reliable synchronizations (object ID based matching); --Smaller and more manageable subject area focused models; --Individual subject area models will be processed much faster by any feature of the modeling tool; B. Speeding up change control and synchronization using advanced features of the modeling tool: --pre-saved Complete Compare sessions; -pre-saved Complete Compare option sets; -pre-filtering of object types and/or instances; --snapshots; --live updates; --non-sequential wizard; A. Effectively using transform's "just in time" switching features to improve the performance of toggling logical and physical views; B. Techniques to avoid lengthy reverse engineering processes through pre-saved filters and other advanced filtering capabilities; C. Advanced version control using a high performance data model repository on SQL Server.
