Advanced ODS Job Scheduling - Simple and Powerful (3054)
Track: Business Intelligence & Performance Management
Program Code: 3054
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Clifton Ivy, Analyst / Programmer, Purdue University
Description
This presentation will cover the simplified job submission procedure Purdue created, and the way we use it in building-block fashion to create complex scheduled jobs that self-report their success or failure.

Purdue created a simplified ODS job submission procedure to handle the complexities caused by using both a job scheduling system and the ODS Administrative Interface to submit ODS refresh jobs. This simplified procedure also made it easier to create new scheduled jobs, allowing us to "put into production" all routinely run ODS jobs.

Advanced use of our job scheduling tool (UC4) allows both serial and simultaneous execution of ODS refreshes or loads, reducing run time to a minimum. Full ODS reloads were reduced from 24+ hours to 4-6 hours. The result of each job is reported in an email, so verifying that last night's refreshes ran correctly is a matter of looking at three email subject lines.
