Creating SQL Server Analysis Services Cubes for PowerCAMPUS (3400)
Track: Technical, Architecture & Integration
Program Code: 3400
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Aaron Kryger, Systems Analyst, Multnomah University
Description
In order to better address reporting needs at Multnomah University it was decided that a data layer would be created using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). This will provide the university with a unified means of accessing PowerCAMPUS data. Reports will then be based on top of this instead of individual SQL queries. The hope is that this will lead to consistent reporting and ease of report generation. Many end user reports will be delivered using SQL Server Reporting Services. However, generating cubes with SSAS also opens up another reporting interface to end users that they are probably already familiar with, Excel. This presentation will describe the project Multnomah is working on, the trouble spots that have been encountered, and the successes.
