What goes in must come out at some point! When the system database gets too large, it can slow resources and use up necessary disk space. Not to mention the time it takes to back-up the database. Georgia State has implemented Banner Student for 8 years and the Banner Document Management Suite for 5 years. We were running out of disk space and the full database backup was getting difficult. Thus, we have the urge to purge. This presentation describes the implementation journey as well as the processes Georgia State University put in place to purge applicants' data as well as all the imaged documents in our Banner Student 8.4 and BDMS 5.4 production database. We will discuss lessons learned and all the issues associated with purging production data from requirements for data retention and compliance to operational risks.
