IT's Role in Dissolving Silos To Achieve the "Impossible" (4392)
Track: Universal Interest
Program Code: 4392
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Jenny Walsh, Director, University of Portland
Description
Five administrative, academic, and student services offices want the same technical solution – document management. They aren't talking though and don't know about the other's needs. Five different vendors offer more features than a single office wants at a price a single budget can't afford. Sound familiar? How about the solution? Fast-forward 18 months: 16 offices are invested, a vendor is selected, $200K of funding approved, the technical solution implemented, and ten offices are operating at production. We will articulate the under-estimated collaborative potential of the campus IT administrative support office and present our process for bringing together busy, diverse offices to forge consensus, build buy-in, and commit to the solution from the ground up. We will demonstrate a unique approach crafted from a sound project management foundation; orchestrated, nurtured, and supported by IT; that provides a context for separate and distinct offices to find their commonalities, understand their differences, and own the solution. The momentum built through this approach drives a level of success that doesn't seem to slow.
