Description
Each spring The University of Alabama (UA) will process over 5,000 letters of transiency for students wishing to take summer classes at a two-year institution. Previously this task was a manual, time consuming process for students and staff, as well as inconvenient for students to obtain the needed piece of paper. To the delight of both students and colleges, UA has implemented a method utilizing APEX (Oracle Application Express) and open source BIRT (Business Intelligence Reporting Tool) to provide students the ability to obtain a Letter of Transiency on demand thru Self-Service in the Luminis portal. Each request is logged allowing for detailed reports. This same logic and tools can be used to produce various documents on demand with detailed reporting. The documents are produced in pdf format, suitable for printing or emailing by the student. This solution integrates authentication with either SSB or CAS. This session will cover how to utilize this technology to better serve your students. In addition to Letters of Transiency, an institution might consider on-demand Letters of Good Standing, Enrollment Verifications, and more.
