Dr. Graham trained in internal medicine and nuclear medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, and is board-certified in both areas. He was on the Nuclear Medicine faculty at the University of Washington from 1980 to 1999, and has been Professor of Radiology, and Director of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Iowa since 1999. He has a joint appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He was a member of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (chair from 2004-2005) and was also a member of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Nuclear Medicine (chair from 2001-2004). He founded the Nuclear Medicine Program Directors Association and spearheaded the movement to extend the Nuclear Medicine training program from 2 to 3 years, which started in July, 2007. He has been active in the Society of Nuclear Medicine, as chair of the Computer Council, Brain Imaging Council, and Academic Council, as President of the Pacific Northwest Chapter, and as a member of the Board of Directors. He is currently president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, and is also one of the co-chairs of the SNM Clinical Trials Network and is chair of the comparative effectiveness committee. He has been PI of 2 NIH R01 projects, was PI of a P01 at the University of Washington, of a P20 at the University of Iowa, and is leader of the Tumor Imaging Program in the Cancer Center and also is leader of the Imaging Response Assessment Team (IRAT) at Iowa. He has reviewed grant proposals for NCI frequently, as a member of study section NCI-F, and in numerous ad-hoc reviews. He has been involved in quantitative PET imaging for the past 2 decades, with recent emphasis in head and neck PET-CT imaging.
