I have been a medical professional since 1960 and am a cancer survivor of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and melanoma. I received surgery for the breast and melanoma, and ovarian cancers.Treatment for the ovarian cancer included extensive treatment with chemo and radiation, more surgery and then another 4 months for late stage ovarian. I am now 5 1/2 years post treatment and am experiencing side effects which affect my quality of life. I have been a radiation therapist for 37 years and was a program director for a school of radiation therapy for six years. I have previously presented at local and state meeting and have presented to the National Radiation Oncology work group at the several past meetings, the latest in May 2008.
As a medical professional I have always been a source of counseling of radiation/radiation-chemo combined patients relative to the side effects expected troughout their course of treatment. I learned through my own experience that so much is lacking in the education of the patient to certian aspects of the quality of life they will have to adapt to as a cancer survivor. Life in itself is wonderful, but not without unpleasant aspects.

Over thirty years of medical social work experience, including clinical services to cancer patients at Boston City Hospital, the Massachusettes Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the North Shore Cancer Center. As director of social services at a community hospital north of Boston, established social work services for the hospital's oncology clinic.
Developed Bridges to Wellness, a successful educational/support program for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at the North Shore Cancer Center and facilitate the Center's ongoing breast cancer support group.
Extensive experience working with head and neck cancer patients through six years as a social worker with the Ear, Nose and Throat service at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and more recently as a member of the North Shore Cancer Center's multi-disciplinary head and neck cancer team. Established and facilitate the North of Boston chapter of SPOHNC- Support for People with Head and Neck Cancer. Currently collaborating with social work colleagues at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmay and the Massachusetts General Hospital on the development of an educational guide for professional social workers addressing the psychosocial needs of head and neck cancer patients and their caregivers.
Member of one of the first fifty teams to participate in the City of Hope's Education for Quality Cancer Care program designed to teach professional caregivers ways to enhance care for cancer survivors.

Stefanie McKee, Ph.D., a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, is the director of program development at Hospice by the Sea. In this role, Dr. McKee oversees new program development, research, data collection and program evaluation for palliative care, complimentary medicine, and caregiver programs at Hospice by the Sea.
Dr. McKee has developed and implemented a hospital-based inpatient palliative care consultation program as well as an outpatient cancer wellness and survivorship program.
Dr. Mckee is very involved with teaching and developing the end-of-life/palliative care curriculum for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, where she is an Affiliate Clinical Assistant Professor.
She is trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy and provides individual therapy and group therapy to oncology patients.
McKee was an undergraduate at the University of Maryland and completed a pre-doctoral research fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health before attending graduate school at the Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. Her doctoral degree is in Clinical Psychology with a subspecialty in Behavioral Medicine. She completed her internship in clinical psychology at the Medical College of Georgia and Augusta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. McKee completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and was an instructor in the Mayo School of Medicine. She is licensed in Florida as a Clinical Psychologist.
