Description
This session is concerned with key issues and recent developments in the evaluation and treatment of early stage non-small cell lung cancer. Some of the knowledge gained in the advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer patients may be transferred to the early stage patients. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to do the following:
1. Discuss the biology of early stage disease NSCLC.
2. Outline the surgical treatment options available to patients with early stage NSCLC and the current support for the treatment and the expected outcomes.
3. Explain the best methods of evaluation of the mediastinum in patients with early stage NSCLC and their limitations.
4. Given the advent of molecular evaluation of the primary lesion, discuss the impact of its use in selecting adjuvant therapy in patients with early stage NSCLC.
