Description
The session should give an overview on radiation therapy in stage III non-small-cell lung cancer. This includes standard of care chemoradiation protocols specified on radiation dose, fractionation schedules and typical concurrent chemotherapy protocols. As an outlook going beyond current standard protocols this session should also give an overview on new radiation techniques based on altered fractionation and dosing protocols. Innovative drugs should be outlined that may play a role in improving chemoradiation protocols. Innovative radiation techniques based on IMRT, 3D radiation planning, particle therapy and proton therapy should be described and discussed. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to do the following: 1. Critically analyze standard and innovative concurrent chemoradiation protocols for treatment of stage III NSCLC. 2. Discuss innovative drugs with a mode of action for radiation sensitizing properties. 3. Analyze new radiation techniques based on dose and fractionation schedules on theirt toxicity/efficacy ratio.
