Description
"Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition", highlights this issue and calls for research on survivorship care, development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, assessment tools, and screening instruments to improve the health of long-term cancer survivors. There is wide recognition of the importance of survivorship care issues, and there are ongoing active efforts by ASCO and NCI to address cancer survivorship. Survivorship issues are especially relevant for the Radiation Oncology community. This multidisciplinary panel brings together experts in cancer survivorship from within and outside of Radiation Oncology. The goal of this session is to discuss survivorship care issues specifically relevant to radiation oncologists, potential model for multidisciplinary care/collaboration, and current knowledge gaps (opportunities for future research). This session will be relevant for clinicians and researchers. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to do the following: 1. Recognize the survivorship issues specifically relevant for radiation oncologists. 2. Outline a model for multidisciplinary survivorship care, and evidence-based interventions to improve care and quality of life of cancer survivors. 3. Describe current efforts by ASCO and NCI regarding survivorship care, current knowledge gaps and opportunities for research and collaboration.
