Description
In many work environments, EA services are provided by peer volunteers or member assistance programs. This session will provide a solid contextual history of the development of EA services within Labor Unions. The presenter will share information designed to assist EA professionals from various backgrounds to work collaboratively and build positive, effective relationships. The presenter will discuss terms associated with unionism and the labor movement; stratgies for maximizing the effectiveness of EA services; as well as common pitfalls, which could harm a working relationship. All EA professionals who are engaged in working with an organized workforce will benefit from this informative, proactive session.

Objectives:
• summarize the history and origins of the labor movement;
• identify union/member/peer EA best practices;
• discuss laws & terminology relevant to EA service provision with an organized workforce.
