Using FGAC to Decentralize the Degree Certification Process (4052)
Track: Student Services
Program Code: 4052
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Rod Hoewing, Associate Registrar for Student Systems, University of Illinois
Description
In combination with allowing students to apply for graduation using the Banner 8.3 Graduation Application process, we needed to allow our college offices the ability to update the graduation information on outcome records without allowing the college to actually award the degrees. Using both FGAC rules and Banner masking functionality, we were able to prevent college users from keying incorrect graduation dates for each term, accidentally charging graduation fees and creating or updating outcome records for degrees outside their college. The FGAC rules for outcome record updates included preventing the change of curriculum from one college to another. We do allow the college users the ability to see all outcome records regardless of college.

I will show the FGAC and masking setup as well as present how the college users see and or update the records in Banner.
