Description
This symposium will present results of a randomized clinical trial using three interventions (culturally-relevant education, alcohol hand sanitizers, masks) to reduce URI and influenza transmission in households.;Objectives: Identify knowledge, attitudes and practices of an urban, recently immigrated population regarding prevention, transmission, and treatment of viral upper respiratory infections (URI) and influenza in households, including inappropriate use of antibiotics. Assess the potential impact of several non-pharmaceutical interventions (alcohol hand sanitizer and masks) on rates of URI, including influenza. Describe rates of influenza vaccination and factors which influence vaccination rates among a high risk population (urban, recently immigrated Latinos).
