The presenter will examine the role of microbial biofilms in healthcare-associated infections. New scientific discoveries in medical biofilm research will be presented along with exemplar strategies to reduce the risk of biofilm infections.;Objectives: • Describe the mechanisms of biofilm formation, persistence, and recalcitrance to antimicrobials on medical devices and in biological tissue • Translate the scientific principles of biofilm disease into the utilization of best practice protocols for prevention of healthcare-associated infections
