Much progress has been achieved in recent years in reducing CLA-BSI and VAP in the ICU setting. Although National effort through the SCIP initiative has helped to focus attention on the prevention of surgical site infections, developing the culture of safety to drive patient and employee safety in invasive procedure areas can be a challenge. This lecture will focus on how infection preventionists can galvanize OR staff around a culture of safety and engage physicians in multidisciplinary collaboratives to improve performance in the operating room.;Objectives: • Recognize and utilize information from national collaboratives to improve OR performance and prevent surgical sites infections • List two ways to engage physicians and OR staff in multidisciplinary initiatives • Describe how future pay for performance and value based purchasing initiatives will impact alignment of physician and hospital goals
