Description
Contact Precautions have been considered one of the essential components of a program designed to reduce the spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) within a healthcare facility. This session will describe an alternate strategy which focuses on education of staff and adherence to Standard Precautions as an effective means to decrease the transmission of MRSA. Examples of institutions which have successfully implemented this alternate strategy will be discussed.;Objectives: Describe an alternate strategy to prevent the spread of MRSA within healthcare facilities. List two advantages of eliminating the practice of placing patients with MRSA on Contact Precautions. Discuss the impact of implementation of this alternate strategy with respect to current legislative and regulatory agencies.
