Spotlight Keynote: Macroeconomic Outlook For The Marketplace: How Did We Get Here And Where Do We Go?
Track : February 24, 2009
Program Code: 030
Date: Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Time: 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM  EST
Location: Orchid 3— 4
SPEAKER :
Nigel Gault, Chief US Economist, Group Managing Director, IHS Global Insight (USA) Inc.
Description
This recession is likely to be the longest and deepest in post-war history. How did we get into such a mess and what are the prospects of getting out of it? Should we think of this as just another recession (albeit a bad one) that will sooner or later be followed by a robust recovery? Or is a return to business-as-usual out of the question this time? Will this shock produce long-lasting shifts in the behavior of debt-laden U.S. consumers, many of whom are approaching retirement without the resources that they had been counting on? And will it mark a dramatic and sustained increase in the role of the government in the U.S. economy?

These and many other observations will be shared during this engaging session
