Description
The participants in this workshop will gain rudimentary knowledge of self injury in youth and some practical experience in responding to referrals of students engaging in the spectrum of self-injurious behaviors. Participants will learn comprehensive cognitive, affective, behavioral, environmental, biological, and psychological interventions. Functional assessment and measurement of nonsuicidal self injury in youth will be discussed. Positive and negative replacement behaviors will be explored as will be mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skill-building prescriptions. In addition, cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies will be adapted for the school psychologist. This workshop is targeted to personnel who work with middle and high school students.
