Melody Musgrove, EdD, is Director of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) for the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Musgrove has been a teacher, director of special education, assistant superintendant, State Director of Special Education for the Mississippi Department of Education, and most recently Director of Business Development for LRP Publications. Dr. Musgrove ’s career is distinguished by her focus on improving outcomes for all children using collaborative problem-solving frameworks and data to influence systemic improvement decisions. Her efforts helped the State of Mississippi to improve reading and math outcomes for students with disabilities, increase inclusive practices and graduation rates, and reduce disproportionate [disproportionality] identification of African-American students for Special Education.

Description
The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) commends the advocacy and the accomplishments of school psychologists on behalf of children with disabilities and their families. Yet, many important challenges lie ahead and school psychologists are valuable partners in the progress that must be achieved. This presentation outlines some of the challenges special education is facing and what school psychologists can do to continue to fulfill critical roles in shaping improved results.
