Description
This 2-day Advanced Professional Training (APT) Workshop offers intensive training that includes pre-workshop reading and both pre- and post-workshop activities. The workshop examines reading, writing, and mathematics from a brain-based educational perspective, and classify learning disorders into distinct subtypes. There is a discussion linking each learning subtype with scores of evidence-based interventions. The use of neuropsychological assessment within a four-tier response-to-intervention (RTI) model is discussed as the primary means to identify specific processing deficits for children who do not respond to standard protocol interventions.

The primary learning objectives for the APT workshop are to provide practitioners with a multimethod approach to assessment integrating the tenets of both neuropsychological testing and curriculum-based measurement, and to link specific assessment results with individualized interventions based upon the neurodevelopmental profile of the child. Specific case students interspersed within an extended PowerPoint presentation primarily target elementary-age learners. Last, the merits of using a school neuropsychological approach to operationally define and remediate learning deficits with reading, writing, and mathematics are explored.
