Dr. Malamed, a dentist anesthesiologist, is professor of anesthesia and medicine at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. He is the author of Handbook of Local Anesthesia; Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management; and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office.

Dr. Malamed and Dr. Hawkins, together for the first time, will present an interactive discussion of the current status of pain control in dentistry. This program will look at drugs, technique and pharmacology of local anesthesia: what's "hot" and what's "not."
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Examine the problems associated with local anesthesia delivery
2. Explore current drugs, equipment and technique of local anesthesia
3. Understand the specific challenges of the medically compromised patient
