Dr. Lingen is an associate professor of pathology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Lingen's NIH-funded research focuses on the early detection and prevention of oral cancer.

Although the majority of head and neck lesions do not carry significant morbidity, the clinician must be able to successfully differentiate the benign entities from the more serious conditions of this region. Dr. Lingen will review the most common soft tissue lesions associated with the oral cavity and provide the most up-to-date information regarding the detection and prevention of oral cancer.
The attendee will be able to:
• Apply the necessary techniques for performing a comprehensive oral exam
• Identify the most common and some of the more unusual tissue lesions of the oral cavity
• Understand the role of the dental team in developing differential diagnoses for oral lesions
• Understand the potential role of recent technologies in the detection of oral cancer
