This is the branch of dentistry that encompasses the epidemiology, etiology, prevention, assessment, diagnosis and management of trauma to the jaws and surrounding tissues. These injuries are typically quick, sudden and unexpected; which is why clinicians must be prepared to render appropriate emergency care at any time. Dr. Berman will present an evidence- based and common sense approach to clinically managing every phase of dental traumatology, including crown fractures, root fractures, luxations and avulsions. Other related topics such as resorption and prevention will be discussed.

The attendee will be able to:
• Assess a traumatic injury to the teeth and associated soft tissues
• Evaluate and manage crown and root fractures, with and without pulp exposures, for mature and immature teeth
• Evaluate and manage luxation and avulsion injuries for mature and immature teeth
• Understand the concepts and techniques for splinting traumatically injured teeth
• Understand the concepts, prevention and management of root resorption
